Expertise of the organisation

The School of Life Sciences at Sussex has a track record of international excellence in research in the medical and environmental sciences. The School includes toxicologists and environmental chemists with research programmes studying the exposure and effects of environmental chemicals in humans and wildlife. Current expertise includes the development of analytical techniques and metabolomic technologies to identify biomarkers of disease and of exposure to chemical contaminants in wildlife and humans.

Role in the project

This partner is rsponsible for bioassay-directed identification and grouping of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in human tissues. They determine identity and concentration of chemicals in receptor active fractions by quantitative LC-MSn and GC-Msn analyses and also paticipate in the metabolomic profiling of rat uteri and blood samples. They will contribute to the epidmiological analysis of case-control studies with data on metabolomic markers, as analysed by pattern recognition algorithms.
