University of London School of Pharmacy

Expertise of the organisation

The University of London School of Pharmacy (ULSOP) is the only academic institution in the UK entirely devoted to teaching and research in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. It has a research track record of international excellence and attracts post-graduate and post-doctoral researchers from all over the world. The School’s Centre for Toxicology has grown into one of the major centres internationally for the study of combination effects, especially of endocrine disrupting chemicals. The ultimate goal of the Centre’s research programme is to provide mechanistic understandings of combination effects of xenobiotics.

Role in the project

This partner is responsible for the project coordination, project management and the establishment and maintenance of the project and cluster websites and preparation of brochures. They are responsible for in vitro mixture studies with the aim to predict dose-effect relationships for realistic exposure scenarios of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). They use the YAS and PALM assays to carry out in vitro mixture studies, metabolomic biomarker identification, epidemiological analysis of case control studies for cumulative EDC exposure and grouping of EDCs in human tissues. Ultimately, this parner is responsible for the analysis of CONTAMED project results in terms of their implications for improved EDC human health impact assessment and for predictive toxicological risk assessment.
